Good mental health is essential to the overall health of both men and women, but women experience some mental health conditions (including depression, anxiety and post-traumatic stress) at higher rates than men.
According to research conducted by Beyond Blue (www.beyondblue.com.au), around 1 in 3 women will experience anxiety during their lifetime. It can happen at any time, but we know women are more likely to experience anxiety during pregnancy and the year following the birth of a baby.
Understanding the risks and recognising the signs and symptoms of anxiety can help you to recognise them in yourself and others. The important thing to remember is that effective treatments are available and, with the right care, most people recover. See our Anxiety Fact Sheet (click here) for tips for managing anxiety.
Women's Health Week is September 4 to September 8 - make time this week to reduce stress and relax and if anxiety is impacting on your quality of life, please see your doctor and contact Centacare NENW on 1800 372 826.
