Community Development Officer/Aboriginal Mediator

Tamworth - Full Time (16-month Contract)

Centacare NENW is currently seeking a full time community development officer to establish and maintain strong community linkages, referrals and partnerships in a culturally sensitive family mediation service.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Provide assistance in the delivery of mediation and or education for Aboriginal and CALD Clients.
  • Coordinate arrangements for service delivery and engage and consult with communities and service providers to improve access to services
  • Support a culturally sensitive mediation model involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients who are affected by family violence and experiencing a family separation

Applicants must have:

  • Experience in working with Aboriginal families and communities
  • Knowledge of the family law system
  • A demonstrated understanding of the sensitivities involved when working with families affected by family violence
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
  • The ability to engage vulnerable clients, develop partnerships and maintain strong networks will referral agencies

Aboriginal Cultural Wellbeing Worker

Designated Aboriginal Position

Moree - Part Time (30hrs/week)

Centacare NENW is currently seeking an Aboriginal Cultural Wellbeing Worker to provide peer mentoring support, deliver group mental health education and awareness to clients, schools and the community and provide support to the Aboriginal Wellbeing Care Coordinator.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrated knowledge of mental health/wellbeing issues facing Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander peoples, families, communities and/or lived experience where you have walked a path to recovery and healing.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander cultural practices
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing and building and maintaining interpersonal working relationships servicing links between Mental Health, commercial and community services.
  • Demonstrated experience where you have supported another person through their recovery and healing.
  • Demonstrated experience of running groups or yarning sessions within varied environments and with varied participants
  • Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office Suite including e-mail.
  • A satisfactory Working with Children and Police Records check.
  • Current NSW drivers licence and the ability to travel as part of the job.
