Parenting Program Services
Centacare NENW offers the following parenting programs and education groups:
Building Connections – One 3-hour session
This 3-hour program aims to help separated parents have healthy and strong relationships with their children.
The pre-meditation program covers:
- Ways of communicating with the other parent
- The impact of separation and conflict on children
- Setting goals for future parenting
Keeping Kids in Mind – Five 3-hour sessions (FEES APPLY)
This 5-week court approved post separation parenting course designed to help separated or divorced parents in high conflict.
This course covers:
- How to help parents handle strong emotions better
- Understanding how entrenched conflict negatively affects children
- Tips for parenting during tough times
Circle of Security Parenting – Eight 90-minute sessions
The Circle of Security Parenting program is based on research about how secure parent – child relationships can be strengthened. This program is designed for parents/caregivers of children aged 0-4 years.
Parents and carers will learn to:
- Understand your child’s emotional world by learning to read the emotional needs.
- Support your child’s ability to successfully manage emotions.
- Enhance the development of your child’s self-esteem
Surviving Your Adolescents – Two 3-hour sessions
Provides parents with some useful skills for dealing with teenage behaviour. Surviving Your Adolescents helps parents to better understand:
- What is normal behaviour for a teenager
- How to manage risk-taking
- tips to maintain and improve your relationship with your teenager
- What not to do and what to do with your teens.
Helping Children with Trauma – Four 3-hour sessions
This course helps parents/caregivers to:
- Understanding the behaviour of children with developmental trauma
- What to look for and how to help
- Attachment and why it’s important
- Using PACE and Therapeutic Parenting
- Vicarious or Secondary Trauma and how to take care of yourself
- Helping children thrive with the Six Core Strengths
Tuning in to Kids – Six 2-hour sessions
This program aims to teach parents and carers skills in recognising, understanding and managing their own and their children’s emotions. For parents/caregivers of children aged 2-12 years old.
Parents and carers will learn to:
- Improve talking with and understanding your child
- Help your child learn to manage their emotions
- Help to prevent behaviour problems in your child
- Teach your child to deal with conflict
Tuning in to Teens – three 3-hour sessions
For parents of children aged 12-24 years. This course helps parents/caregivers to:
- improve communication with and understanding of your teen
- help your teen learn to manage their emotions
- Help to prevent behaviour problems in your teen
- Teach your teen to deal with conflict
- Help your teen develop their emotional intelligence
Parenting Explosive Kids – Four 3hour sessions
For parents of children who are easily frustrated and chronically inflexible.
Parents will learn to:
- Identify the child’s concerns & triggers that cause the behaviour
- Teach the child coping skills and find workable solutions that satisfy both parent and child.
Practical Parenting – Three weekly sessions
Practical Parenting offers strategies to take the stress out of parenting. Suitable for parents of children aged 0-12 years old.
Parents will learn:
- 12 strategies to help your child
- Better ways to discipline
- Helping children with their emotions
- Collaborating with your child
- What gets in the way of parenting
- Helping with parent anger
Bringing Up Great Kids - Six 2-hour sessions
A mindful, reflective and respectful parenting program with a focus on building loving and nurturing relationships between parents and carers and their children. This program is designed for parents/caregivers of children aged 0-6 years.
The Bringing Up Great Kids program supports parents and carers to:
- Reflect on their own parenting style.
- Learn about the child’s brain & the relationship to behaviour
- Explore communication
- Overcome obstacles getting in the way of being the kind of parent they would like to be
- Learn about the importance of parents/carers self-care

Toolkit for Dads – one 3 hour session
Helping Dads learn about:
- What gets in the way
- What to do if you ‘lose it’ and new ways to discipline
- self-care for dads
